After installation of the sixth station Radar HF

On September 4th, the installation of the sixth station Radar HF of the 20 necessary to cover the coast of mainland Portugal was completed.

This station, located in the Lighthouse of Boa Nova in Leça da Palmeira also meets the main objective of the European project RADAR-ON-RAY.

This equipment will allow you to observe and monitor surface currents and maritime agitation to a distance of 100 km from coast with a spatial resolution of 1.5 km.

Since Portugal, through the Hydrographic Institute, has Spanish entities as partners, it is possible to integrate this system with other similar ones along the western coast of Galicia, thus covering the entire coastline between Viana do Castelo and Finistère.
