Commander of the 6th precinct and STRIKFORNATO visits the IH

Vice Admiral Lisa Franchetti (US NAVY), commander of the 6th American Squadron and also of STRIKFORNATO (Naval Strike and Support Forces), visited today (March 29) the Hydrographic Institute (IH) in order to know the GEOMETOC capabilities developed to support naval operations.

The visit included two small briefings and then a visit to the Maritime Centre of Excellence GEOMETOC. This centre is collaborating in the preparation of Trident June 2019 by providing GEOMETOC information.

The 6th Squadron of the United States (U.S. 6th Fleet) operates essentially in the Mediterranean Sea and has its command in Naples - Italy. STRIKFORNATO, based in Portugal (Oeiras), integrates US naval capabilities into NATO in the event of conflict or crisis. It includes rapid mobilization forces from 12 countries and combines naval contributions from France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
