Collaboration between OHI and ARDITI/OOM
Since July 8, Funchal, a collaboration has taken place between the Hydrographic Institute (HI) and the Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation/Ocean Observatory of Madeira (ARDITI/OOM), to share experiences in the acquisition of hydrographic and oceanographic data.
With regard to Hydrography, the activities developed included the execution of hydrographic surveys in Porto do Funchal, Ponta da Cruz and Tabua, with great emphasis on the use of the unmanned vehicle Observatory II (DriX model) of ARDITI/OOM and its high resolution multi-beam sonar, optimized to determine the baptometry up to 2500m deep.
With regard to the Monitoring of the Marine Environment, the IH supported the implementation of this capacity using various oceanographic equipment, for the collection of physical and biogeochemical data of the water column. Some suggestions were shared to improve the collection of data on the water column, as well as the maintenance of oceanographic equipment, preparation of campaigns, good data collection practices, safety in the operation of equipment at sea, and inopinable approaches during operations.
Activities will continue until August 2, now focusing on Geology and Chemistry.
This cooperation has strengthened the relations between the IH and ARDITI/OOM, which share the common goal of deepening knowledge of the Portuguese Sea!
