SEDMAR campaign in the Algarve

Until the beginning of November, the work of acquiring seismic reflection profiles and surface samples of the sedimentary substrate, whose study will serve to update the sedimentary cartography of the Algarve continental shelf, as provided for in the SEDMAR programme (an acronym for “Sea sediment mapping”).

The data to be purchased will also be explored under the R&D project, as it allows the sub-flowering structure of the continental shelf to be described.Conjugation of the onshore and offshore tsunami sedimentary register - OnOff” a project that aims to study and model tsunami events that occurred in the Algarve windshield, based on evidence found in sedimentary coverage.

On board the NRP “Andromeda” is a multidisciplinary technical team (in the areas of marine geophysics, sedimentology and geographical engineering) which, supported by the garrison of the ship, ensures the execution of the work.
