Boat “Master Silva” located by NRP Gago Coutinho with a team from the Hydrographic Institute on board

In an attempt to seek relevant information about this shipwreck, the Navy, through the Hydrographic Institute, boarded at the NRP Admiral Gago Coutinho, a rapid intervention hydrographic team equipped with a lateral scanning sonar and a remote control submarine vehicle (Remotely Operated Vehicle - ROV).

The search was performed in the position of the signal emitted by the emergency positioning buoy (EPIRB), and the vessel was detected through the lateral sonar and the identification was confirmed, using the ROV vehicle.

There is the presence of gillnets around the vessel, which made research work difficult, particularly in the operation of the ROV.

It is recalled that the ship sank on October 15 when it was about 10 miles (about 19 km) off Esmoriz.

After the search, the grieving families the Navy expresses condolences.
