“ATLANTIC POLEX.PT 2018”

The Hydrographic Institute, represented by the Division of Chemistry and Pollution of the Marine Environment, has been participating in the pollution control exercises organized by the Directorate General of Maritime Authority. This year the exercise “ATLANTIC POLEX.PT 2018” takes place in Ponta Delgada, between 27 and 28 June, involving different bodies of the National Maritime Authority and the Navy being associated other organizations such as EMSA, Air Force, Civil Protection, City Hall of Ponta Delgada, Municipal Police and Volunteer Fire Departments and R&D centers.

On 27th, associated with the exercise, the seminar entitled “Preservation of the Marine Environment” took place and the IH gave a lecture entitled “Chemical Analysis: a Fulcral Test Element in Identification of the Origin of Hydrocarbon Pollution”.

On the 28th, the IH will participate in different scenarios of the simulation, accompanied by agents of the Maritime Police, in order to take samples from the various locations affected by the simulated pollution.
