Presentation of the National Oceanographic Data Centre at the Hydrographic Institute

The presentation of the National Oceanographic Data Centre (NODC-PT) took place today, 23 October, at the Hydrographic Institute, in a formal session chaired by the Deputy Chief of the Portuguese Navy, Vice Admiral Pedro Sousa Costa.

The ceremony included addresses by the Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute, Rear Admiral João Paulo Ramalho Marreiros; the President of the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), Dr. José Ângelo Guerreiro da Silva; and the Chair of the Portuguese Committee for the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (CP-IOC), Professor Luís Menezes Pinheiro.

The project was presented by Commander Telmo Geraldes Dias (HI) and Dr. Rita Esteves (IPMA). The session was also attended by several representatives of the Portuguese Navy, namely Vice Admiral Coelho Cândido, Vice Admiral Carlos Ventura Soares, Vice Admiral José Salvado de Figueiredo and Rear Admiral Manuel da Costa Honorato.

The National Oceanographic Data Centre is a marine spatial data infrastructure integrated into a global network of national oceanographic data centres, coordinated by the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) programme of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).

The NODC-PT aims to centralise access to Portugal's marine data, jointly managed by the Hydrographic Institute (HI) and the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), under the coordination of the Portuguese Committee for the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (CP-IOC).
