Angola and Portugal sign protocol to strengthen navigation security

It took place at the Academy of Porto de Luanda, the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Instituto Hydrográfico e de Sinalização Marítimo de Angola (IHSMA) and the Instituto Hydrográfico (IH) de Portugal. This collaboration between the two institutes aims to update the Angolan nautical charter, the development of cartography, hydrography and the formation of staff and greater security of navigation in the African country.

The Director-General of IHSMA, Manuel Narciso, and the Director-General of the IH, Rear Admiral Carlos Ventura Soares, were the signatories of the protocol at a ceremony attended by the Secretary of State for the Civil Aviation, Maritime and Port sectors of Angola, Carlos Borges.

The Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute of Portugal, Rear Admiral Carlos Ventura Soares, stressed that the protocol "is vast and also implies improving everything that has to do with maritime safety, cartography, oceanography, training" which is expected "already for 2022".

Both institutions should develop, under this protocol, various activities in the field of cartography, hydrography, nautical signaling, oceanography and the formation of Angolan frames in order to strengthen Angola's maritime and port activity.
