Admiral SACT visits the National Centre of Excellence in the area of maritime GEOMETOC

Taking advantage of the advanced knowledge that exists in the Navy in GEOMETOC (Geospatial Information, Meteorology and Oceanography) the process of accreditation of the NATO Maritime GEOMETOC Centre of Excellence, to be built at the Hydrographic Institute (IH) is underway. In this context, the Supreme Allied Commander for Transformation (SACT), General André Lanata, was in the IH, on 20 March, to discover the national proposal and visit the center of national excellence in the maritime GEOMETOC area. SACT is one of NATO's two strategic commanders and is responsible for promoting and overseeing the transformation of the Alliance's forces and capabilities.

The Chief of Staff General of the Armed Forces, Admiral Silva Ribeiro, the Secretary of State for National Defense, Dr Ana Santos Pinto, and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Admiral Mendes Calado, had the opportunity to strengthen the interest and contribution that this center can give NATO, at a time when it is sought to strengthen the maritime posture of the Alliance. A technical and political process will follow with a view to the desirable adoption of the national proposal, with the estimated end of the inauguration of the NATO Maritime GEOMETOC Centre of Excellence at the end of 2020.
