Galileo 2018 campaign - 2nd communiqué

After crossing the Drake Canal and acquiring opportunity hydrographic data during navigation, the ship reached the southern Shetland Islands archipelago. Crossing Nelson's strait between Nelson and Robert, BIO Hesperides made the southern approach to Livingston Island with the aim of providing logistical support to the Spanish base “Juan Carlos”.

The ship remained fused during the night and only on the morning of February 22 went on to the Island of Deception. On this site two hydrographers from the Spanish Hydrographic Institute team were landed along with a survey vessel. These elements will remain at the Spanish base “Gabriel de Castilla” for 4 days to carry out a simple beam survey and topography of the coastline.

On 23rd the ship returned to Livingston Island and the team landed and made observations Galileo.
