1st Hydrography Conference of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries - Opening Session
On 4 July, the solemn opening of the 1st Hydrography Conference of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) took place.
From the interventions of the interlocutors, the transversal message of all stood out, highlighting the central need for cooperation and training in the area of Hydrography and related scientific areas within the CPLP community, to increase the safety of navigation and the development of national hydrographic services, but also, considering the international geopolitical and strategic scenario, where reforms and commitments are expected from countries, with a view to defining goals related to the sustainability of the oceans and the role that they may play in the climate agenda. It is in this scenario that, increasingly, Hydrography (and related areas) can and should be used as an essential tool in the knowledge of the ocean, knowing in advance that the constant changes in the environment, whether natural or man-made, make the work of hydrography endless, requiring permanent monitoring and updating.
The work of this conference will continue until 7 July at the Hydrographic Institute. Stay up-to-date on CPLP and Hydrographic Institute websites.
