Title: Solving the puzzle of megatsunamis: using the proximal impacts to constrain the generation of tsunamis deposited by volcanic collapses

Objectives: The main objective of the UNTIeD project was to provide a detailed reconstruction of the impacts and source characteristics of Fogo’s megatsunami, integrating both onshore and offshore approaches. The project aimed to understand the mechanisms of volcanic tsunami generation, quantify inundation extent and sediment transport, and develop numerical models calibrated with field data to assess associated hazards. Additionally, UNTIeD sought to generate curated datasets, characterize sedimentary and fossil deposits, establish precise event chronologies, and deliver scientific tools applicable to tsunami risk mitigation and coastal resilience planning.
