Abstract: The project PLATMAR "Development of volcanic island shelves: insights from Sta. Maria Island and implications on hazard assessment, habitat mapping and marine aggregates management" aims to answer three main questions:

  1. How do the different geological processes shape the present-day morphology of the insular shelf.
  2. Which factors control the formation, distribution and thicknesses of the sedimentary bodies on the insular shelf
  3. What triggers submarine landslides on the edge of the insular shelves of the Azores and how frequent are them

Total Financing: 199 934,00€ (Hydrographic Institute (IH): 35 555,00€)
