Abstract: The project PLATMAR "Development of volcanic island shelves: insights from Sta. Maria Island and implications on hazard assessment, habitat mapping and marine aggregates management" aims to answer three main questions:
- How do the different geological processes shape the present-day morphology of the insular shelf.
- Which factors control the formation, distribution and thicknesses of the sedimentary bodies on the insular shelf
- What triggers submarine landslides on the edge of the insular shelves of the Azores and how frequent are them
