JERICO-NEXT
The JERICO-NEXT project brings together 33 organisations from 15 countries with the aim of strengthening and extending a European network of coastal observatories aimed at monitoring the coastal ocean areas of the European margin in the physical, biogeochemical and biological aspects and at providing high-quality environmental data and related information products.
The IH contributes to the project through the Cannon of Nazareth Observatory (MONICAN), conducting a set of activities aimed at:
(a) contribute to the demonstration of the importance of the JERICO-NEXT monitoring network in supporting operational oceanography and the numerical forecasting of the areas of the European coastal ocean, in particular by showing how these observations can improve numerical forecasting capabilities or by assessing model performance (skill assessment) either by assimilation of observations or by highlighting how numerical models can be used to design and optimise the monitoring network;
(b) monitor the area of influence of the Cannon of Nazareth, ensuring the quality of the data collected and making available the observations collected by the MONICAN system through the IH website http://monican.hydrographic. enin the framework of the mechanism “Virtual Access” contemplated in this project.
