Title: From benthic resting stages to HAB events: understanding the role of physical-biological coupling off NW Portugal
Funding: PTDC/CTA-AMB/31265/2017, funded by FEDER through COMPETE2020 - Operational Programme for Competitiveness and Internationalization (POCI), and by national funds (OE) through FCT/MCTES.
Project Coordinator: Ana Amorim
Address: aaferreira@fc.ul.pt
Scientific Coordinator: Ana Amorim and Paulo Oliveira
Objectives: Blooms of the toxic dinoflagellate Gymnodinium catenatum are a recurrent phenomenon in the Iberian upwelling system. This project will investigate the physical and biological processes that determine G. catenatum bloom initiation, with emphasis on benthic resting stages (cysts). Other harmful and potentially harmful (HABs) cyst producing species will also be investigated.
