Who Makes IH | Lieutenant Matos Machado

Behind everything we do, there are people.
“Who Makes IH” is the monthly feature that highlights the staff members who shape the Hydrographic Institute.

A native of Vila Real, where he was born on August 22, 1996, Lieutenant Rafael Matos Machado joined the Navy in November 2022 as a contract-regime military officer and has been stationed at the Hydrographic Institute (IH) ever since.

Throughout his career at IH, he has served as Head of the Legal Department of the Support Directorate, providing legal support to the organs and services of the Hydrographic Institute. His primary responsibilities include drafting legal opinions and briefs, advising on human resources matters, monitoring administrative processes, and collaborating on the preparation of contracts, protocols, and other legal instruments.

What he appreciates most about his professional activity is the opportunity to apply, in practice, the knowledge acquired throughout his academic path, contributing daily to the fulfillment of the Hydrographic Institute's mission.

In his spare time, he enjoys traveling and playing sports, with a particular interest in football, tennis, and gym training.
