NRP Andrómeda hosts municipal and scientific delegation under the AMPIC Project

On July 29th, the NRP Andrómeda hosted a visit from the Vice-Presidents of the Municipal Councils of Cascais and Sintra, Luís Capão and Francisco Duarte, the Councillor of the Municipal Council of Mafra, Eduardo Silva, and Professor Emanuel Gonçalves from the Fundação Oceano Azul.

The delegation was received by the Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute, Rear Admiral Ramalho Marreiros, representing the Admiral Chief of the Naval Staff.

This visit took place within the framework of the AMPIC Project (Community-Led Marine Protected Area), allowing for the direct observation of data collection work through the Multibeam System. The objective of AMPIC is to create a marine protected area along the coast of Cascais, Mafra, and Sintra, in a partnership that unites these three municipalities and the Fundação Oceano Azul, inspired by the successful model implemented in the Algarve in 2024.

The initiative made it possible not only to monitor the ongoing work but also to reinforce the importance of scientific knowledge and the technologies used in the study and preservation of the ocean.
