The first mission to collect data and samples for the AQUIMAR – Marine Knowledge Supporting Aquaculture project, which took place from 1 to 27 October aboard the NRP “Auriga” and NRP “Admiral Gago Coutinho” ships, ended.

CTD profiles, sampling of water and sediment samples, ADCP profiles and binding of correntometer moorings in four coastal areas were performed, from algarve, Sines, Peniche, Leixões and Aveiro. In total, 273 stations were sampled between the bathymetry of 30 and 200 m deep, and about 250 sediment samples and 900 water samples were collected, which will be analyzed in terms of biological, physicochemical and microplastic parameters.

In 2019, under this project, two other missions are already planned.
