Admiral Almeida Pereira is the new Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute
Commodore David Augusto de Almeida Pereira took office today, July 30, as the new Director-General of the Hydrographic Institute (IH). He succeeds Rear Admiral João Paulo Ramalho Marreiros in a ceremony presided over by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CEMA), Admiral Jorge Nobre de Sousa, at the Hydrographic Institute facilities.
In his inauguration speech, Commodore Almeida Pereira expressed his commitment to ensuring that the Hydrographic Institute continues to assert itself as a pillar of the Navy's operational product, a National Hydrographic Service of excellence, a credible scientific reference, a trusted institutional partner, and a school of rigor, competence, and public service.
Addressing the military and civilian personnel of the Hydrographic Institute, he highlighted the cohesion, professionalism, and experience of its crew, stating his intention to fulfill this commitment together with everyone in the institution. Before the IH team, he also took on the responsibility of listening, learning, and deciding with humility, rigor, and a high sense of institutional duty.
During the ceremony, the work developed by Rear Admiral João Paulo Ramalho Marreiros was also recognized. His mandate was marked by a commitment to the development and recognition of the Hydrographic Institute as a national reference in the fields of hydrography, oceanography, and nautical cartography.
The Hydrographic Institute thanks Rear Admiral Ramalho Marreiros for the commitment, dedication, and professionalism shown throughout his mandate, also praising his distinguished military career in service to the Navy and Portugal. Over more than four decades of service, his path was guided by the highest standards of competence, technical rigor, sense of mission, and dedication to the public cause, leaving a legacy of invaluable worth to the Hydrographic Institute and the Portuguese Navy.
